Groundwork

People love to ride their horse, I love to ride my horse, but I hate having to struggle with getting a horse to stand to be brushed, saddled, getting on, leading from point A to point B, etc. Hence why ground work is important. It's important to be able to have a horse stand still while tied, while having the farrier work on his feet, stand to be brushed and saddled, stand to get on and once on and not take off. What you do on the ground transfers into the saddle. The better on the ground a horse is, the better he will be under saddle. The average horse weighs 1000 to 1200 pounds and could easily run someone over, kick someone or bite. They are pure power and muscle. It wouldn't take much for them to injure someone. That's why groundwork is soooo important and necessary. Without it, people get hurt and can end up in the ER. I know several people that have ended up in the ER from basic  ground working errors with their horses. If you need help with ground work with your horse so that they respect you and listen, then don't be afraid to ask someone for their help. That's what trainers and friends are for. To help others.
